Mining

Mining

Gold is the region's founding fact and it is still worked today. Cadia, near Orange, is one of the country's largest gold mines and employs around 1,800 people; the Northparkes and Cowal operations sit further west, and the Ulan coalfield lies near Mudgee. Each carries real economic and environmental stories, from production and jobs to seismic suspensions and expansion assessments.

We cover the mines on the documents: the operators' ASX and investor releases for what a company says of itself, and the NSW major-projects planning portal, the modifications, environmental statements, submissions and determinations, for the assessment record that is the first-hand trail. Nothing we cannot stand up about an operator or a landholder is published.
